Carnival Sunrise overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 6, 2020

Carnival Sunrise has everything an active family could want on a cruise ship. This Sunshine-class vessel comes with many of Carnival's signature new amenities, including the SkyCourse ropes course, SportSquare outdoor activity area, and Serenity adults-only retreat. The ship also features classic fleet staples, such as The Punchliner Comedy Club, the Cloud 9 Spa, and Dive-In Movies. For younger cruisers, Sunrise offers comprehensive kids' programs, including Camp Ocean for kids aged 2 through 11, the Circle "C" lounge for the 12 to 14 crowd, and Club O2, where teens can hang out and socialize.

Sunrise, which was known as Carnival Triumph prior to its 2019 relaunch, came away from its $200 million Fun Ship 2.0 refurbishment with several new venues and a long list of upgrades. Additions include the RedFrog Rum Bar, two captain's suites, and the exhilarating WaterWorks waterpark, which features the superfast Aqua Tunnel and Twister waterslides.

The ship also has a variety of unique bars and clubs. The BlueIguana Tequila Bar lets cruisers beat the heat with frozen concoctions and Mexican favorites, while RedFrog Rum Bar offers travelers a fun island vibe. And for a little something out of the ordinary, the ship's Alchemy Bar features tantalizing vintage elixirs made with fresh ingredients.

With homeports in Fort Lauderdale, Norfolk, and New York City, Carnival Sunrise sails to a multitude of exciting destinations. Caribbean cruises depart from Fort Lauderdale and New York, while Bahamian cruises leave from all three homeports. Stops may include Nassau, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, and Ocho Rios. New York cruises also sail to Canada and Bermuda.

Before you book

Reasons to sail: With onboard activities designed for all ages, Carnival Sunrise has definite multigenerational family appeal. From its epic WaterWorks waterpark to family-friendly comedy at The Punchliner Comedy Club, nobody is left out aboard this ship.

You should know: Since Sunrise aims to appeal to families and active cruisers, it isn't ideal for travelers seeking a quiet, relaxing cruise. More laid-back travelers would likely prefer a less action-packed ship with traditional onboard amenities on a line like Celebrity or Princess.

Memorable Caribbean Cruise by kphengnoi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunrise

This was a graduation trip for my son. It was his first time on a cruise and we enjoyed our time on the cruise. There were so many fun events to attend each day. All of the crew members were very nice and welcoming. Thank you!

Not again, Carnival. by Jreckin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunrise

We were not overly thrilled about this cruise. We have cruised over 25 times and the clientele wasn't what we are use to. We probably will not go on Carnival again. The service in the dining room was very poor. Food wasn't all that great neither. There were other choices to eat so we were glad for that. Pizza was good, and Guys burgers was a hit. Embarkation and debarkation was easy enough. It moved quickly and easy but the shuttle service to the airport thru the cruise line was so slow, having to wait a long time for the bus.
